I posted this in the Beta 5 announcement but had no reply (maybe no one is receiving notifications?) so here it is again:

Hi - tx for implementing dark mode!

I noticed a few things with beta 5:

1) The title bar on Settings and CM is very light when they lose focus.

2) When restarting CF after switching back to light mode, several CM image entries are replaced by [Whitespace].

3) "[Whitespace]" text is very dark and hardly visible. This also applies to various Settings which I think are greyed out.

4) Is there any possibilty of an option for CF to follow the OS theme?

5) I am advised that the CM 'Clear the focused list' bin icon is red. Nearly 10% of the male population suffers from Red/Green weak colour-blindness, so the use of red as a differentiator in UX is discouraged. I can hardly read it!

6) Image previews sometimes seem broken in dark mode i.e. they do not display at all. If I switch back to light mode then new image clipboard captures preview fine.

Tx for listening!

7) Clipboard Manager pops up by itself after unlocking the screen. (Beta5 fixed the other CM auto pop-up issues that were in 5.x though)

Thanks for the feedback! I've added 1, 3, 4 and 5 to our feedback list.

I've tested out 2, 6, and 7 here but haven't been able to reproduce any of them on a couple of different machines. Are you able to reproduce them reliably?

Tx for listening. Yes 2,6 & 7 are all reliably reproducible.
Though just now #6 image previews seem broken in light mode too (after switching from dark).

Would you be able to backup your settings (Settings > Options > Export) and send them over so that I can test with your exact settings?

Thanks!

Sure - attached.
FWIW when it exported the Settings, it popped up a dialogue box saying they had been exported and with a "copy to clipboard" button. I did but all it did was the copy the msg "Your settings have been successfully exported." i.e. not really what I expected! ;-)

Thanks! I can't reproduce these here still. For #2 and #6, could you send me a debug log?

  • On the ClipboardFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

For #7 I can't reproduce that either. Is the Clipboard Manager 100% closed before you lock the desktop, or is it open and just in the background behind another app window?

Debug log attached with screenshot of [Whitespace] entry after switching to Dark mode.

Also the clipboard manager pop-up to front is after it is open but it was behind other windows. Reproducible all day long. :)

Thanks! From the log it sounds like the history database is corrupt. If you don't need anything in the history, could you do the following?

  • Exit ClipboardFusion
  • Delete the clipboardfusion.db file that should be in "D:\Appl data\ClipboardFusion" according to your settings backup.
  • Launch ClipboardFusion
  • Test the images again

Still can't reproduce that Clipboard Manager coming to the front issue though, not sure what could be happening there.

OK I first tried clearing the clipboard using the bin/trash button but it didn't fix the issue. So then I deleted the .db file. And now image previews (issue #6) work fine. :-)

But after switching from dark to light mode I was surprised that the clipboard was empty. The .db file was 0 so it looks as if it didn't save the clipboard for some reason. So I can't test the [whitespace] substitution part yet.

Any idea why it's no longer saving the db?
I've attached a log enabled while I made a couple of clipboard entries.

That's really strange! In the ClipboardFusion Settings, what folder is the database set to store in (Settings > Clipboard History tab)? If you click the Default button, then apply and restart ClipboardFusion, does that make any difference?

Doh! Somehow that folder got reset to the default userdata folder from my normal appl-data folder. I changed it to the right folder but the db file was still stuck at 0 bytes even after adding new entries. Then I stopped CF, deleted the db file again and restarted and now it's growing again. :-)
Hmm wonder how that all happened ... ah well!

Ok I spoke too soon. The db file is stuck at 4KB and doesn't change despite me copying more content to the clipboard and the CM window showing multiple entries. Debug log attached.

Do you have any anti-virus or other security software (Sandboxie or something like that maybe?) that might be causing issues with the file? It seems like it's just getting corrupted every time but I've never seen that happen before.

We've released a new beta that has some colour improvements to some text and the trashcan icon. If you run into any issues after updating, please let us know.

Thanks!
