I really like your first suggestion, and it would be quite easy to implement as an option, like the HTML scrubbing. Your 2nd solution is also very good, but would take much more work. I love them both though, and they are now on my list.

have you ever double clicked on a word and copied it into another application and noticed that there are some trailing spaces or linebreaks which are really annoying?
That's my feature request: add an option to automatically remove white spaces around my text.

And the next idea: is it possible to add a black list of applications where I won't automatically scrub anything (like my PHP developer environment)?
